Debuchy: Newcastle must improve or nightmare will continue

Newcastle defender Mathieu Debuchy insists unless his side improve the Magpies will see their season end on a low note. The Magpies' home defeat by Swansea on Saturday made it five defeats in a row, with only one goal scored in the process.

"Everyone is very disappointed, of course," Debuchy told the Newcastle Chronicle.

"I have never known five defeats in a row.

"It is something which is not acceptable for a club like Newcastle United and a squad like ours. It is something we simply should not be doing."

However, the French full-back did take some positives from Saturday's defeat, insisting the loss was unjustified.

"I think we deserved at least a draw from that but we have to look back at the mistakes we made," Debuchy added.

"We lost from two set-pieces - a corner and a penalty - and that is nowhere near good enough."
