De Visser: Chelsea so close to landing AC Milan's Pato

Piet de Visser has revealed Chelsea came close to landing current AC Milan star Alexandre Pato. De Visser was working as chief scout for Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and revealed in the summer of 2007 he tried to sign the then Internacional de Porto Alegre striker. The plan was to buy him for Chelsea and immediately send the youngster on-loan to sister club PSV Eindhoven.

"We were watching Pato", said De Visser of the Brazil international. "I gave him pictures of Ronaldo in a PSV shirt - and he was enthusiastic. He believed strongly in a similar development. I did my utmost, but it was not successful.

"Internacional wanted a lot of money for him."
