Daniel de Ridder was pleased with his first start for Wigan in their defeat to Liverpool.
The 24-year-old told the Wigan Evening Post: "It was nice to play. I've had to be patient because the team has been doing well.
"I was training well, staying sharp and finally I got my chance.
"Hopefully I can go on like this and get the opportunity to impress even more. We played with three midfielders and two wingers at Liverpool, so I got my chance with Antonio Valencia playing inside.
"Antonio is out for the next game but I'm not really thinking about that at the moment. The Villa match is a big one for us. It should be a good game against a big team.
"I've got memories of playing against them for Birmingham before coming to Wigan."
