Wigan Athletic signing Daniel de Ridder has defended his new club against claims from Birmingham City that they've gone overboard on raiding St Andrews.

As well as several backroom staff, Latics boss Steve Bruce has also signed Wilson Palacios and Olivier Kapo from St Andrew's, but free transfer De Ridder said: "Under the new manager (Alex McLeish), I wasn't playing and in some games I was not even on the bench so there was absolutely no future for me."
