MLS hopefuls New York Cosmos have had another big name commit to their cause with Hollywood star Robert De Niro getting on board.
Already with Brazil legend Pele and Manchester United great Eric Cantona heavily involved, the Cosmos board would be buzzing now De Niro has shown his interest.
It has been reported that the Academy Award-winning actor of Raging Bull, The Godfather, Taxi Driver, Cape Fear, Goodfellas, Analyze This and Meet the Parents fame invited Cosmos president Pele to New York's Tribeca Film Festival this month with plans to discuss his potential involvement in the club.
The Cosmos are hoping to win a license to join Major League Soccer, which would see them return to North American domestic soccer for the first time since they disbanded back in 1985.
So far, the names on board have them in a very strong position and surely De Niro getting involved will only add to the reformed club's popularity.
