De La Hoya can't wait for 'once in a lifetime' opportunity with Houston Dynamo

Oscar De La Hoya is eagerly anticipating Sunday's MLS Cup final at The Home Depot Center.

The former boxing world champion is co-owner of Houston Dynamo, who take on the LA Galaxy, and he cannot wait to live the life of a soccer fan on the sport's biggest day.

"This is now what I feel I should be doing," he told the Houston Chronicle. "This is what I've been missing out on literally all of my life - the fan experiences that only come once in a lifetime.

"I can kind of be a kid and experience this experience like a regular fan that supports the team. I want to do that, and this is my opportunity. I'm really excited about being a fan."

De La Hoya is currently winning a battle with alcoholism and says that things such as the upcoming final now create much more resonation within him when before it may have passed by without consequence.

"Every single day, things are happening to me that I'm like, 'Wow. This is amazing,'?" he sdded. "I missed that. I missed that for many years. If and when the Houston Dynamo win the Cup … I'm pretty sure I'm going to feel emotional because of what I've lived.

"I was reborn. I'm a new man. I'm doing what's right. I'm doing what's the right thing for myself. Therefore I can do what's right for my family. If we win, it will definitely be amazing."
