Siem De Jong expects big changes at Newcastle United this summer.

De Jong admits he didn't expect to be returning to a side who've been stuck on 35 points since mid-February and predicts major changes in the summer to ensure Newcastle don't go through another traumatic season.

"I'm surprised where we are in the league," he added. "I came here not expecting such a difficult season.

"We need a couple of points at least otherwise we will have a very tough final couple of games.

"I want a totally different season for me and the team next year.

"The team will change over the summer with some players leaving and new ones coming in.

"We need to strengthen and everybody knows that.

"I want to forget about this year and show that I can be a big player for Newcastle."
