De Guzman blames himself for Swansea defeat

Jonathan de Guzman feels he cost Swansea City their chance to get back into the game against Manchester City.

Trailing 1-0 on the stroke of half-time at the Etihad Stadium, the Dutch midfielder went clean through with only City goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon to beat.

But de Guzman blazed the ball wildly over the crossbar and City went on to win 3-0.

He said: "It was a good chance and with my quality I should have buried it.

"I got the ball from the middle, I turned and just tried to place it into the corner, but it went high over the bar. I didn't see the replay, but I thought it bobbled. That's a good excuse but 100 per cent it should have been a goal.

"I knew I was free in the box, there was just one man to beat and I was eye to eye with the keeper. I thought I'd just place it in the corner.

"It would have been a different game if that had gone in, but we were still positive going into the second half.

"With the equaliser it would have been a lot different. It would have given us more energy to get a result."
