De Gea: I won't quit Man Utd - I want to match Schmeichel

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea insists he won't go scurrying back to Spain.

De Gea warned anyone who feels his stay at the Theatre of Dreams will become a shortlived nightmare to think again.

He told The Sun: "I have every intention of spending many years at Manchester United. I want to go on to become a great United keeper and to earn and deserve respect. I want to help United make history."

De Gea was just starting to walk when Schmeichel was making his name at the club in 1991.

But he has still seen enough to be inspired by the Great Dane.

De Gea added: "Peter Schmeichel was legendary and a role model for any keeper."
