De Bruyne magic leads Man City to thumping victory over Real Madrid

Kevin De Bruyne helped guide Manchester City to a 4-1 thrashing of Real Madrid in front of 93,098 fans in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

Pep Guardiola's side piled on four second-half goals through Nicolas Otamendi, Raheem Sterling, John Stones and Brahim Diaz. Oscar Rodriguez pinched a consolation goal - albeit a stunning one - for Los Blancos on the 90th minute mark.

One would assume that Real manager Zinedine Zidane fielded a young side in this entertaining encounter. But this would only contain a half truth; for the first sixty minutes, Bale, Modric, Benzema, Marcelo, Varane and Casemiro all donned the Real jersey.

Halftime saw the scores at 0-0, with both sides having their chances to take the lead.

It was City however who would break the deadlock through an unlikely source. Not long after the interval, Kevin Bruyne whipped in a beautiful corner, which John Stones met at its ideal height.

His subsequent header was well-saved by Keylor Navas, but the Costa Rican couldn't avoid the deflection falling to the feet of centre-back Nicolas Otamendi, with the Argentine duly passing the ball into the net.

De Bruyne would be involved in City's second goal, after some nice passing led to the Belgian slipping a deft pass through the Real defence to release Sterling. The Englishman took his time and calmly placed the ball on the inside of Navas.

After this, Zidane made 10 changes to his starting XI. However, it didn't stop De Bruyne, who continued to have a field day with another assist, giving City a three goal buffer.

This time, De Bruyne found space on right wing after a short corner and then had the presence of mind to pick out Stones in the box, who much to everybody's surprise, slotted the ball home as if he was wearing the number 9 jersey.

With ten minutes remaining, it was time for City's youngsters to get in on the action. 17-year old Spaniard Brahim Diaz played an elegant one-two with Patrick Roberts, who then slipped past one defender and smashed the ball from just inside the box into the top corner past Casilla.

Real would get something out of the match when Oscar scored an incredible goal right at the death. The 19-year old attacking midfielder picked up the ball from 30 yards out, saw the City keeper off his line and hit a perfect strike into the top corner.

But it was City boss Pep Guardiola who would have walked away delighted with his team's performance after their derby defeat to Manchester United last week.

City will now travel to take on Tottenham in Nashville on July 29. For Real, their next clash is a 'friendly' El Clasico against Barcelona in Miami.
