Kevin de Bruyne has defended Manchester City teammate Raheem Sterling against his World Cup critics.
De Bruyne has revealed his surprise at the manner in which the England speedster, a club colleague with the Premier League champions, is hounded by his critics.
After both men suffered World Cup semis defeat in Russia, Belgium international De Bruyne said: “I don't understand why you would criticise people from your own country when all they are trying to do is win.
“I hope he will get the love he deserves. He's obviously an easy-going guy who gives everything for everyone, even with the criticism."
He added: “I think he's done really well in the games that I saw.
“He hasn't scored goals, obviously, but not everything in football is about goals. In the end, Raheem is a wonderful player."
