"We wanted to improve our performance both on and off the field so that our loyal fans as well as new fans would have a club that lived up to their expectations as the best club in MLS.

"I wish the club and staff success in the upcoming season and the future."

The Red Bulls will being their search for de Bontin's replacement this week as they continue to prepare for the 2014 MLS season opener against Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place on Saturday.
