Dutch legend Ronald de Boer says Memphis Depay didn't work hard enough to make it at Manchester United.

Depay left the Red Devils in January for Lyon after a disappointing 18 months at Old Trafford.

De Boer told Sport360: "He's a great talent. It just didn't work out.

"He has his characteristics and perhaps he can be smarter at times. When people expect you to do things and you don't, don't do other things [to attract attention].

"[Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang, I saw him in a blue suit, an ugly one in which he looked like a clown, but it's accepted because he's scoring goals, so everyone laughs about it.

"But if you're not scoring goals and playing bad, people will say he's thinking more about his clothes or whatever. They have to be smart, you really have to work."
