DC United and Fabian Espindola are yet to come to terms over a contract.
The Washington club selected the Argentine striker in the 2013 Re-Entry Draft but per league rules, that does not necessarily equate to a guaranteed deal.
MLSsoccer.com's Argentine correspondent, Emmanuel Quispe, posted on Twitter that Espindola's proposed move to DC has met some difficulty as both parties have not agreed on a salary.
Espindola, who has had two separate spells with Real Salt Lake, spent the 2013 MLS season with New York Red Bulls before they declined the option on a second year.
