DC United star Wayne Rooney has spoken of trying to handle former Manchester United teammate Memphis Depay.
Now with Lyon, Memphis lasted less than two seasons at United after joining with much fanfare from PSV Eindhoven.
Rooney recalled: "He struggled once against Stoke City.
"He made a mess of it in their penalty area and he only played fifteen minutes. Louis van Gaal then said that he had to join the reserves the next day.
"So after the game I said to Depay: 'Listen, it will be a bit difficult for you. Do not go with all your fancy stuff'."
Depay, however, ignored the advice of Rooney.
"The reserves match was in Altrincham, a stadium that holds six thousand people and they'd get just over a thousand. He appeared there in his Rolls Royce, wearing a red leather jacket and his cowboy hat. And I thought to myself: 'Why did I make any effort for you at all?'"
