DC United sign LA Galaxy keeper Wicks

D.C. United have announced that the club has acquired goalkeeper Josh Wicks from the Los Angeles Galaxy in exchange for a conditional pick in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft. The 25 year-old will report to United's pre-season training camp in Charleston, South Carolina, where the team is competing in the Carolina Challenge Cup.

"Josh has a lot of qualities that we are excited about," said United General Manager Dave Kasper. "He is extremely athletic, is a good organizer, and has a big presence in goal. We look forward to what he can bring to our club in the future."

Wicks signed with the Galaxy in 2008 and made six league appearances (five starts), registering a 1-2-3 record with a 2.18 goals against average. Prior to joining the Galaxy, Wicks spent two seasons with the Vancouver Whitecaps (2005 and 2006) and one with the Portland Timbers (2007) of the USL First Division. He helped lead the Whitecaps to the USL championship in 2006 and was named the league's Goalkeeper of the Year in 2007 as a member of the Timbers after posting a 13-4-9 record with a 0.60 goals against average.
