DC United have signed Valerenga goalkeeper Troy Perkins.

Perkins returns to DCU in a trade that sent Brazilian midfielder Fred, the club's first-round choice (seventh overall) in Thursday's draft and allocation money to the expansion Philadelphia Union, says the Washington Post.

Union had the first crack at Perkins through the MLS allocation process. In order to move up and claim the U.S. national team goalie, United had to make the deal.
