DC United striker Charlie Davies has filed a lawsuit against a nightclub and Red Bull North America following a car crash he was involved in two years ago.
The 25-year old, on loan from French club Sochaux, has filed a $20million lawsuit against Das Enterprises, which operates Shadow Room, and Red Bull North America, the host of the private event on October 12, 2009, at the K Street establishment.
The two companies are accused of continually serving alcohol to Maria Alejandra Espinoza who was the driver responsible for the car accident that severely injured Davies and killed another passenger.
Davies' lawyer Jon Pels said: "There is nothing that can restore the lost opportunity Charlie Davies had of representing the United States in the World Cup.
"It is a testament to his strength and athleticism that he is playing soccer again.
"This is yet another example of how drinking and driving can kill and injure. Bars must accept responsibility when overseeing an event such as this."
