DC United president Kevin Payne has made it clear that the club will hold discussions with star midfielder Dwayne De Rosario regarding a new deal.
The 3-year old Canadian international joined the Washington outfit from New York Red Bulls in late June but his future at the club is not yet sorted.
Payne insists that DC want to hold onto the 2011 MLS Golden Boot winner and will go about negotiating a fresh contract soon.
"We have an option year, but we're going to sit down with him and talk about a longer-term relationship," Payne told the Washington Post.
"Talks could start soon, but I suspect we won't be able to have full conversations until November. It goes without saying, we want DeRo back and we think he can help us for more than one year.
"He was pretty good this year, and you look at the number of games he played down the stretch, he's physically strong and takes good care of himself."
