DC United bring in ex-Racing Santander, Almeria defender Christian

MLS club DC United have signed Spanish defender Christian Fernandez Salas.

The 28-year old left-back joins the Washington outfit after leaving Almeria in December and his arrival has been warmly welcomed by general manager Dave Kasper.

"We are pleased to be adding a left back with solid La Liga experience who is in the prime of his career," said Dave Kasper in a club statement.

"Christian is very good at getting forward to join the attack and providing quality service. This move helps solidify our backline moving into the new season."

Christian started his career with Racing Santander in 2003, primarily playing for the 'B' team, before becoming a regular with the Cantabrian clubs senior side.

A loan spell with Segunda Division outfit Las Palmas was undertaken in 2008 before a permanent move to Almeria occurred in 2012.
