DC United have announced the signing of Everton striker Wayne Rooney.

After landing in his new home, Rooney was mobbed by fans as he arrived at a beer garden event hosted by the UK and Belgian embassies in Washington.

Fans in England shirts took selfies with the star, while the former Manchester United and Everton forward even posed for a picture with a Liverpool supporter.

DC's general manager Jason Levien said: "This is a seminal moment for our fans and organisation.

"Wayne is a global soccer icon and his presence at DC United will elevate our product on the pitch and soccer, as a whole, in our city and in this country."

Rooney will be presented to the local media next week.
