MLS club DC United and Italian giants Inter Milan have announced a collaborative agreement to form a strategic partnership.

The Washington-based outfit, owned by Erick Thohir and Jason Levien, have struck up a partnership with the Nerazzurri who have won the Serie A title on 18 occasions and European Cup/UEFA Champions League three times.

The relationship has been formed following Thohir's acquisition of 70% of the Italian club which allowed him to step into the role as president, replacing Massimo Moratti, who has become the club's honorary president.

"We see this as a positive relationship for Inter. We appreciate the cooperative opportunity and look forward to working with DC United now and in the future," said Inter's vice-president Angelomario Moratti.

DC's managing general partner Levien added: "We are thankful for the opportunity to work collaboratively with Inter. We believe this relationship will prove a significant benefit to DC United's growth and long-term achievement."
