Dawson plays down "petulant" clash with Man Utd's Ronaldo

Tottenham stand-in skipper Michael Dawson has played down an incident with Manchester United ace Cristiano Ronaldo during Saturday's 0-0 draw.

Dawson's performance at centre-back helped keep out United, and the defender played down an incident where Cristiano Ronaldo appeared to aim a kick at him.

"I made a tackle and was running off so I don't know what happened," he said.

"It was petulance," said BBC pundit Alan Shearer. "We've seen it from him once or twice before and if Dawson went down he could have been in trouble."

paulzc,

Ronaldo is playing so well that every moves he makes is being criticized. That is the fact of life. Did Messi score more 42 goals in a season before, win goal of the year, win La Liga last season, champions league last season, best free kick of the year? None.

Ronaldo is the most tackled player almost every season. He did not complain n stop playing. Excellent.

So now you will find ANY negative fault of Ronaldo n start comparing again with Messi. It never ends. The main thing is focus on football. Nothing else.

You will criticize and look at ONLY the negative side of the player in the team u hate or the team u do not support even though he is so good. This is common. If ronaldo is in the team you support, most likely you will look at his positive side and ignore his negative side. So much comment and criticism.

1) Just a show pony

2) A very poor finisher

3) A box of tricks

4) No end product

5) Dribble and hold on to the ball too much

At the end of the day, all these criticism did not bother him. He is the best player at the moment. If he is a poor finisher, how did he finish becoming the top scorer when he is not a forward at all?

6) Criticism keeps coming to him and he has been called all kinds of names n things.. He has raised above the clouds. Well done, world player of the year.

7) What's next ? He is gay... only gay behaves like that. He can't play long ball. He can't shoot a straight ball. He can't talk good british accent. He dives too many. He is a bad example...He is a winker. He has no patience. He is just football player and not smarter than me.

If you have been at the TOP on one thing that u r good in your life, I am very sure you have received bad remarks from friends n people who are jealous and doesn't want you to be successful, using words to demolarise you. This is common.

I agree with Bryant from Singapore. Why bother watching replays and criticizing after the fact when the point is useless. They add injury time @ end of game so why not give 2 challenges per coach per game for replay on a shady call like offside goals or like the call on Ronaldo for arming the ball to net the goal against Spurs (my opinion, bad call). Given the coaches just 2 challenges will limit the time used while keeping the game entertaining. What do you think?

I always believe that if video replays are used, then the incident should be reviewed. If not, why even bother to look at the replays. That is why action should be taken against Ronaldo for his act, based on his intent to hurt. Even nothing happened and no one is injured in the process, we should be penalising offenders who delibrately tried to hurt another. To me, this is also very important, and not just whether the ball crossed the line or not, whether there is offside or not, or whether a goal has been awarded correctly.
