Striker Kevin Davies told the Manchester Evening News, Bolton's senior players met Sammy Lee last week to discuss the club's current crisis.

Lee's future remains on a knife-edge despite Sunday's encouraging 1-1 draw against Spurs at the Reebok Stadium.

And results from Wednesday's Carling Cup tie at Fulham and Saturday's bottom of the table clash at Derby will be vital to the direction taken by Wanderers in the next few weeks with chairman Phil Gartside saying he's looking for progression in the coming games.

"We've had a couple of positive meetings," said Davies.

"We just tried to see what everyone can do to help the situation and I think they've really helped.

"The feeling round the place has been bright and two draws is going to give us some sort of confidence to build on."

Davies also confirmed it was senior players rather than the whole squad who met Lee.

"There have been so many changes in this club, it's bound to be difficult at times," added the former Blackburn and Southampton striker.

"We've been looking at one of the staff pictures and there's something like 12 or 13 of the 20 staff have gone this year.

"We're looking to bring people in to try to replace that quality but it's a difficult process at times.

"It's been a difficult transition for us, but we feel we are turning that corner."
