Davies remains grounded as Forest win at Cardiff

Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies is keeping level headed after his team's 2-0 victory over high-flying Cardiff. Davies said his men must maintain their form after extending their run without defeat to four outings.

Davies said: "It was a very good three points but that's all it is as we are still in November. There is a long way to go and we have done nothing yet.

"I am not too excited at the moment as we have to wait until the end of the season for the big picture.

"Last year we were second at one time but still didn't win promotion.

"My staff and I know what it takes to get out of this division and we have every chance of doing that if the players listen."

A late injury to Dextor Blackstock was the only blot on the afternoon.

Davies said he would assess the injury but was certain he wanted to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window.

He added: "I am hoping we can add to the squad in January as we are trying to progress this club on the field and we do need more players. Whether that happens or not I don't know at this moment in time.

"It looks as though Dexter Blackstock has cruciate ligament damage which is very disappointing for the lad and for the club.

"I have not seen the incident closely but will look at it again on the video."

Defeat for Cardiff knocked them off the top of the table and assistant manager Terry Burton felt his team's sloppy defending cost them.

Burton said: "There are a couple of reasons why we lost today and they can be found at both ends of the field.

"In a tight game you have to take your chances and today we didn't do that.

"Then we gave away two soft goals and that is a recipe for defeat.

"If goals are scored against us through clever play fair enough but today they were scored because of our defensive errors.

"Despite suffering from laryngitis Dave Jones still gave the players a rollicking at half-time.

"Jay Bothroyd will be disappointed with the two chances he missed but that's football."
