Davies confident keeping Barnes at Derby

Derby County boss Billy Davies remains hopeful of hanging onto midfielder Giles Barnes beyond August 31.

The 19-year-old is currently recovering from a fractured metatarsal, but has attracted a lot of interest, notably from West Ham.

"There has been an improved offer made for Giles, not only from West Ham, but also a number of other clubs," confirmed Davies.

"But their valuation is miles away from where we would consider anything taking place, so as far as I'm concerned, roll on the end of August.

"Hopefully Giles will be with us for the remainder of this season and beyond as a Derby player because I still feel his development must continue here."
