Bolton Wanderers striker Kevin Davies insists Nicolas Anelka was always destined to move on to bigger things.
The Frenchman came back to haunt Bolton with a goal in Chelsea's 2-0 win last Saturday.
Davies said: "I felt he used his move to Bolton to get to a big club.
"He used Bolton as a stepping stone. Nic was happy enough here, but he always had ambitions.
"However, we got a lot of money for him and got a lot of goals from him before he left.
"It was a good deal for both parties.
"He is a bit sulky and likes to keep himself to himself.
"Some people are like that, but he is a nice enough person so good luck to him."
