David Villa is yet to call time on his international career.
The departing Atletico Madrid forward, who has signed for New York City FC, was in tears upon his substitution during Spain's World Cup win over Australia.
"The normal thing would be for it to end here. You have to be realistic. I'm going to go six months without competing, but if the gaffer wants me and calls me in six months' time, I'd be delighted to come.
"I'd love to play for the national team until I'm 55, because I've loved it for as long as I can remember, but I know that's not possible. I've taken the decision to move to MLS and I won't be competing for a few months It's complicated. We'll see after those six months. I'll work like I always do."
