David Meyler has handed Sunderland a boost.

The Irish ace was sidelined for 17 months by two knee ligament injuries.

But after a brief run-out as a sub against West Brom last Saturday, Meyler came through 90 minutes for the reserves in a win over Wigan on Wednesday.

The midfielder, 22, said: "Everything is good with the knee - it feels great."
