Dave Reddin is joining England coach Roy Hodgson's backroom team.
The Daily Express says the highly respected Reddin - who worked with England's 2003 rugby union World Cup winning team and also the GB Olympic squad in 2012 - begins work in February as the Football Association's new Head of Performance Services.
Reddin was involved in discussions with Hodgson and the rest of his coaching staff in a meeting before Christmas when England's itinerary prior to their arrival in Brazil was put together.
He gave his views on penalties, among other things, during the meeting and is now likely to travel to Brazil with England, where his experience and skill set will bolster Hodgson's backroom team.
