Date change gives Tottenham 'massive advantage' in transfer hunt - Pochettino

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino believes that his side will have an advantage over their rivals going into the transfer window.

The transfer window will open on June 9 and close on August 9, a few days before the new Premier League season begins.

It means Premier League clubs may not buy and players after the window is shut. It is still possible for them to sell players to other clubs in Europe, whose transfer windows may run until the 31st of August.

Pochettino thinks the move will help Spurs.

"It is about preparing the team better and to be ready to compete from day one of the competition," he said.

"That is the most important thing. Now the transfer market is going to change and it's going to help us. It's a massive advantage for us for it to finish before the start of the season. For us, it's massive.

"It's fantastic because now it's before the start of the season. Not one month later!

"Of course, for many clubs it will not change too much but for us it is going to change a lot. We're going to have the squad ready before the start of the season.

"If we want new players, they need to arrive before the start of the season. It's more helpful because they're going to have more time to adapt before the start of the season and help the team. You're going to win an extra month with them and it's massive.

"We don't need to wait for anything. You need today - yesterday - to start to work to try to sign players. It's going to be very helpful for Tottenham."
