Newcastle United's new goalkeeper Karl Darlow will be handed an opportunity to impress during a friendly against Gateshead FC.

Darlow had signed for Newcastle at the start of last season but he spent the campaign on loan at Nottingham Forest as part of the agreement in the deal.

The 24-year old has now reported to Magpies training and he could well be handed a chance to make an early impression next Friday.

With Tim Krul returning late to training following his marriage, Darlow will in all likelihood be manning the sticks for Newcastle during their first pre-season friendly against Gateshead.
