Dallas Cowboys owner Jones sticks up for Hicks over Liverpool problems

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has defended former Liverpool supremo Tom Hicks.

Jones believes Hicks, who also held majority stakes in baseball's Texas Rangers and ice hockey's Dallas Stars, spread himself too thin by buying Liverpool for £220m with partner George Gillet in 2007. The pair were forced to sell up three years later and Hicks has since lost control of his other franchises.

Jones said: "I think the world of him, but the dynamics that were involved there, involved in three different sports at the same time, wouldn't fit me. I would have to delegate a lot more, and that's not my style.

"The way I run the Cowboys, which is a complete involvement, doesn't suit my interests being in another sport. I have such a focus on this game and I am sure many of our fans would say 'he doesn't know how to do one sport let alone two.'"
