Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish says captain Steven Gerrard, despite making a good recovery from his groin injury, is still expected to miss the first month of the season. The 31-year-old had picked up an infection following his groin operation earlier this year and had been in hospital receiving treatment.
Dalglish said: "Steven won't be too far away. The tests that have come back are far better than what was anticipated, so we are delighted by that. We've had some very positive news and will just wait for the progress to continue."
He added: "We've had positive news but the date (of a return) the club has stated remains the same."
