Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish has welcomed their capture of Luis Suarez.
Dalglish says the signing from Ajax is a great statement of the ambition of the new board.
He told liverpoolfc.tv: "We're delighted. He's got a fantastic goalscoring record. He's played in the World Cup and scored goals, he's played for Ajax and scored goals. I think he'll really excite the fans and it's great credit to the new owners, John and Tom, who've put a stamp down.
"They promised there would be funds available during this window and maybe there were one or two sceptics who doubted that - but there's no way they can doubt it now. They have certainly shown their ambition for this football club and their determination to take this football club forward. It's also a great reward for the supporters and the players who have been fantastic since I came in three or four weeks ago.
"All round it's a fantastic day for Liverpool Football Club. It should be and it will be warmly received."
Dalglish continued: "The ambition of the club is there for all to see. We said when we knew money would be available that we'd do our best to spend it responsibly and I think this is a signing that reflects everything that's beneficial to Liverpool Football Club. Everyone can be happy - they (the owners) have stuck to their word. This is a great lift for everybody at the football club."
