Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish insists their resurgence over the 12 months has been a collective effort - including the fans.
The turnaround has been put down almost solely to Dalglish replacing Roy Hodgson in the hot-seat a year ago.
He insisted: "I don't know what happened before. All you can say is they didn't think the results were as good as they could have been.
"The easiest thing to do is to get rid of one person rather than 20 - that's what normally happens. But I think when a manager loses his position there are a lot of people who should look in the mirror and ask if they could have done more to help.
"Sometimes they'll come up with the answer that they could have.
"But the attitude and commitment of the players here is a great credit to them. They have had setbacks along the way but they get themselves brushed down, get up and go again.
"It's great for the football club that they have that feeling and take pride in themselves and what they're doing." "That's not always the fault of the manager. There's a lot of things that go into getting a result and team spirit is one of them.
