Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish insists Steven Gerrard is close to a return.

Gerrard has been sidelined for a month by an infected ankle and Dalglish is refusing to set a date for the England midfielder's return to action. But the Reds boss has rubbished suggestions that Gerrard has suffered complications.

Dalglish said: "Steven is getting closer to coming back but we cannot put a date on it. There's been no setback. We have said all along that we are really positive about his recuperation.

"Steven's progress has been excellent and he will be back sooner rather than later."
