Everton are on the brink of signing Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez recently dispatched scouts to watch Alerweireld for Ajax and is now ready to follow up with a bid for a versatile defender who is entering the final 12 months of his contract.

"We have heard from various sources that Everton are interested in Toby," said his dad Vic to the Daily Mail. "Officially, there has not been any contact yet, but any English team of a certain stature would certainly be interesting for Toby.

"He has two possibilities at the moment. He could sign a new contract with Ajax, or he could move to a bigger team in a bigger league."
