The family of Pepe remain unhappy with how he was treated by Real Madrid in the final year of his contract.

The Portugal defender left Real for Besiktas in the summer as he was allowed to come off contract.

Pepe's father spoke to Globo Esporte about the bitter split.

"Those clubs take the players and squeeze every last drop. When they get tired and have nothing else to exploit, they begin to treat them as they do not deserve. And the player, when he has a personality and notes that his career is ending and he has won everything, he has to try to keep improving," he explained.

"When a year of the contract is left, clubs usually call the player to renew and Pepe was not called. Later, when they did, they offered him the same thing that he already earned. He said he did not want to. He would fulfill what was left of the contract with Madrid and leave."
