The father of Pep Guardiola admits he doesn't know if his son with sign a new deal with Barcelona. Valentí Guardiola admits last season's clean sweep took a huge emotional toll on his son, who was reduced to tears after winning the Club World Cup last month.

"He gave vent to all that was inside him, and that it happened was good for him," said Valenti. "Had he not been able to do that, he would have been hurt badly."

Asked if he thought Pep would stay with Barca, Valenti conceded: "I do not know if he will continue at Barca or if he'll take a break to relax. The father is always the last to know these things. And if I ask him directly, he would deny all.

"All I know is that the decision will be for his own sake and for Barça."
