Dad admits Sunderland's Johnson lost his way at Man City

The father of Sunderland winger Adam Johnson admits his son allowed his move to Manchester City to go to his head.

Dad Davey says Adam has since turned his career around.

Davey - the biggest influence on Adam's career - told the Daily Mail: "When he moved to Manchester he was just dazzled by the bright lights and, yes, I suppose he got drawn into things he shouldn't. He liked a drink and he liked going out.

"At City, Brian Marwood had to have a word with him about it and after a while he calmed it all down. It was just the first few months really. By the back end of his time at City, Brian told me that they hadn't heard a peep from Adam and that was good.

"Now he is back in the North East he is certainly living a much quieter life. Sunderland is a lot different to Manchester. He doesn't go out that much and has worked out that the football has to come first in every way."
