AZ Alkmaar youngster Adam Maher has resisted interest from Manchester City.

The 18 year-old is regarded as Dutch football's best young prospect and he was watched by Barcelona scouts on the weekend.

However, Maher's father, Ider, says City would be the ideal move for his son.

He told Algemeen Dagblad: "A few years ago he could have gone to Lyon, Manchester City or AC Milan. But it was too soon.

"His agent, Sigi Lens, isn't even taking calls from abroad. In any case, we've seen what can happen to young players who join big clubs like Manchester City."
