West Ham boss Alan Curbishley has paid tribute to Sunderland's backers as they move cleared of the dropzone on Saturday.

After defeat on Wearside, Curbishley reflected: "The three sides that came up this year are finding out just how difficult it is when they go into the transfer market.

"But Sunderland have received great backing from the board."
