Curbishley goes for Wolves after missing out on Villa job

Alan Curbishley has been eyeing off a return to football in the Midlands for some time.

Curbishley will interview for the Wolves job today.

The Guardian says Curbishley's emergence as the frontrunner has come as something of a surprise, especially as he has been out of work since he resigned as West Ham United's manager in September 2008. He spent more than a year involved in a legal battle with West Ham, which culminated in him winning a constructive dismissal case and a seven-figure sum in compensation, but he has struggled to get back into the game since.

He was interested in the Aston Villa job when Martin O'Neill walked out on the eve of last season but was overlooked in favour of Gérard Houllier, and his chances of returning to management in the Premier League appeared to be receding before Steve Morgan spoke so warmly about him on Monday afternoon, when the Wolves owner described him as "exactly the calibre of person that we're looking for".
