Cunningham to makes Columbus Crew return

Columbus Crew are hoping that newly-acquired striker Jeff Cunningham can re-live his halcyon days at the club by scoring at will.

Crew took the 34-year old from FC Dallas in the Re-Entry Draft on Wednesday and hold high hopes that his prolific goalscoring ability stays with him as he again slips on the yellow and black shirt in which he scored 62 goals in 182 MLS appearances.

"At the end of the day, I think he values Columbus as a station because he played here once before," Crew technical director Brian Bliss said. "He had some pretty dang good years scoring goals here. I'd like to think he views this as home for him. He's still got a few goals to score."

Crew head coach Robert Warzycha added: "He started his career in Columbus. I thought it would be good for him to come back here and break (Jaime) Moreno's (all-time MLS scoring) record and show the fans he's still a good player."
