Former FC Twente fullback Cuco Martina admits his move to Southampton came out of the blue.

Saints boss Ronald Koeman swooped for Martina yesterday over injury concerns for left-back Ryan Bertrand.

Martina told his P4P management's website: "This for me is a very good step. I spoke briefly with (Ronald) Koeman about my position in the team and how he sees it.

"From there, I hope I can have a lot of playing time at Southampton and I get the chance to show what I can do.

"But that is of course mostly up to myself."
