Cuco Martina brought to Everton for his versatility - Koeman

Ronald Koeman says that new signing Cuco Martina's ability to play in a variety of positions will prove to be valuable for Everton this season.

The Dutchman signed for the Toffees on a free transfer after his contract expired with Southampton at the end of last season. Martina made 36 appearances in two seasons at St. Mary's.

And Koeman, who brought Martina to the Saints from FC Twente, is happy to be reunited with the utility.

"Cuco Martina is an experienced player who can perform in different positions at the back, which is important," Koeman told the club's website.

"It's also important, with the number of games we will face in the coming campaign, that we have strength and competition in the squad.

"I brought the player to Southampton, so I know what he can do for us here and this is why I've now brought him to Everton. He is a player who will strengthen our squad and be able to play in different positions when that's needed, too."
