Crystal Palace winger Townsend chose his loans at Tottenham

Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend has revealed that he always chose the destinations for his loan spells during his time with Tottenham Hotspur.

The 25-year-old played for nine different clubs during his seven years with the North Londoners and admits that he always had a say in where he ended up.

"It was always my decision to go out on loan and who I went to; it was never 'you're going here'," he told Palace's official website.

"f it had been down to the manager at the time Harry Redknapp I wouldn't have gone on as many loans as he always wanted me training and travelling around with the squad. I just wanted to play football and I didn't mind what level I played at.

"I always wanted to prove myself and I knew I had to keep going out on loan to get my chance in the Premier League. The fact I supported Spurs meant it was always a dream come true to get a run in the team and off the back of that play and score for my country."

Townsend's loan career has seen him play for Yeovil Town, Leyton Orient, MK Dons, Ipswich Town, WatfordMillwall, Leeds United, Birmingham City and Queens Park Rangers prior to his move to Newcastle United in January this year.
