Crystal Palace's big-name signing Edgar Davids says he will not underestimate the English Championship.

The 37-year old Holland legend signed a pay-as-you-play deal with the Eagles this week and immediately made his debut in the second round Carling Cup loss to Portsmouth.

Davids, a former Ajax, AC Milan, Juventus, Barcelona, Inter and Tottenham star, is well aware that the Championship is a tough league and says he is prepared for the rigours of England's' second tier.

"I don't know how much I'll play," he said. "The key for me is to have fun and keep enjoying myself. If I have that and also I'm fit, I'll just play. I don't underestimate the Championship, absolutely not.

"It's very competitive, very physical and for me it's a challenge to stay on top of that. It was very exciting to play a game at a decent level again on Tuesday."
