Crystal Palace new boy Bannan: Macedonia win can set standard for Scotland

Barry Bannan feels Scotland's World Cup qualifying win over Macedonia can be the benchmark for the future.

Tuesday night saw the Scots overcome the Macedonians 2-1 in Skopje and although their qualifying campaign for Brazil is over, Bannan suggests that particular performance can help set the standard as they being preparing for Euro2016.

"It's important we put down a marker for the next campaign by ending this one with a good night at Hampden," the Crystal Palace signing told the Daily Expressahead of next month's final WC fixture against Croatia.

"Croatia are a quality team but the way we've started playing under the manager (Gordon Strachan) means we can go into that with belief.

"The Euros have to be a major aim for us as a group and while the World Cup has not worked out for us there are signs that we're getting back on track."
